There is a big difference between someone who dresses well and someone with style. Anyone can put on a beautiful dress and look good. It is the rare few who can use clothes to project personality, emotion and creativity. Actress/signer/business woman Tracee Ellis Ross is one of the rare ones.

The daughter of singing legend Diana Ross and music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein, Tracee is best known as an actress for her roles in the T.V. shows Girlfriends and Black-ish. Recently, she’s become a beauty mogul, having launched her hair care line Pattern Beauty in 2019 with products that embrace authentic Black hair beauty.

She is also a single woman in her 50s who oozes self-love and acceptance, celebration and delight, intelligence and depth. She has exploded on social media by honestly connecting with her fans. Tracee, in a 2021 Harper’s Bazar interview, said about her digital influence: “I didn’t see enough examples of different versions of how a woman can find happiness and joy and power and sensuality, sexuality, all of that, without it being through the lens of how I’m seen by a man. People are like, ‘You’re the poster child for being single.’ And I was like, ‘Great.’ But what I would prefer is that I’m the poster child for living my life on my terms. And that there’s a version of that for everyone.”

Let’s break down some of Tracee’s signature style moves.

Big Event Style

Tracee tends to lean into drama when dressing for the red carpet. She likes to dress in one color quite a bit, and really pays attention to proportions. If there’s volume in her outfit, her hair will be pulled back in some way. She’s a fan of a plunging neckline unless she’s leaning into showcasing her curves. That’s when her fabulous legs and natural hair get displayed.

Casual Looks

Simple and comfortable seem to be the adjectives to describe Tracee’s out-and-about style. She leans into elegant structures with an urban twist. Her accessories do a lot of the heavy lifting and she’s rarely seen IRL without oversized sunglasses to complete her look.

Sultry Scorpio

I wasn’t surprised at all to discover that Tracee is a Scorpio, born October 29, 1072. She exudes the mysterious, independent quality that is associate with that sign. Her sex appeal comes with a fearlessness that I admire. It’s easy to see that she loves being a woman.

Embracing Prints

It’s a testament to her impeccable eye that Tracee can pull off lush, bold prints without looking costumey. I’m sure her background in fashion, working as a young woman at Mirabella magazine before she became an actress, was key to honing her style. It probably also didn’t hurt having a Supreme Motown diva for a mom.

Tracee is a true inspiration for her powerful authenticity. Follow her on Instagram and YouTube if you don’t already!
